The Giving Pledge is “an effort to help address society’s most pressing problems by inviting the wealthiest American families and individuals to commit to giving more than half of their wealth to philanthropy or charitable causes,” created as a result of conversations between Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffett and other philanthropists.

Those who have already signed the pledge – including the Gateses, Buffett, Michael Bloomberg, George Lucas and others – are billionaires. But the campaign isn’t meant only for those with assets in the 10-figure realm, but anyone willing to commit and contribute financially to make the world a better place.

With these types of commitments, hopefully it will be.

I am the first to admit that I hate running financial numbers for my business. I truly do need to get around to hiring an accountant and/or bookkeeper.

But after chatting with Sean from Alaska Heliskiing at last night’s Seattle premiere of Re:Session, the new Teton Gravity Research video, I was suddenly inspired.

What if I ran the numbers to figure out how much I needed to earn this winter to cover business and personal expenses…plus a few heli trips? And all the other snowboarding trips I have on my “want list”? Suddenly cash flow projections and P&L statements seemed fascinating!

Another gentle reminder that you can make money AND change the world…

Here I am, three days into Guerrilla Business School — and again thinking that Peak Potentials is the primo training option for entrepreneurs like me.

Curiosity meets the homebuying process

One of my adventures this year is Treasure Hunting with Curiosity Restoration Specialist Barak Rosenbloom. Every day, I get email reminders to play. And be curious. How’s that for the good life?

Anyone who’s been paying attention knows those types of reminders are almost overkill for the fun-focused creatrix of this blog. But not necessarily. Because I have someone reminding me that curiosity can be part of everything, I have become ever more curious in my homebuying process. Every bike ride, every trip to the grocery store, every return from a professional or social event becomes another chance to look for cool properties to see if maybe, just maybe, they have a For Sale sign in front. And better yet, a sales sheet that notes 2+ bedrooms, great light and secure storage for our enormous collection of bikes, snowboards and skis. For a killer price.

Still, I hope that our perfect home manifests in time for us to close the deal before snowboarding season starts and I have no incentive to do anything but drive up I-90, mach down Alpental, return and repeat.
